VSonic GR07 MK2 - Packaging

First of all I would say a huge thank you to Zarni from the GateShop located in the USA for sending me out the VSonic GR07 MK2 Pro. I’ve always wanted to get my hands on the VSonic range, due to their incredible praise they received in the recent years. The GR07 MK2 Pro, being regarded by many as one of the best earphones, not only in its price category but as a neutral sounding earphone with a little punch. I can’t comment on the other VSonic line, nor can I compare the MK2’s to its younger brothers as I’ve never owned them.

As you’ll be able to see above, its ratings I’ve given it are quite high and I whole heartedly feel that it’s the right thing to do – I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending these earphones nor hesitate in buying myself a pair. However, you’ll be able to see from the cons that worldwide availability is something of a concern, which is a shame.
With that said I have a few links that I was able to find of the MK2’s – luckily if you live in the USA, you won’t have any problems sourcing the GR07 MK2’s.
Purchase links:
AmazonUSA $180 / £112
MP4 Nation $180 / £112
eBay posted from Hong Kong £115

As you can see above, the worldwide availability is scarce and finding these located in the UK and/or EU is actually near impossible. This means that people who lie in the UK/EU like myself would have to import them. Importing is always dangerous when it comes to custom/import taxes and even the time frame required to receive them could be extremely long. However, if you are in the USA or in Asia, you shouldn’t have any problems getting them in.

Review of the Denon AH-C400 Earphones – A neutral sounding earphone

Design & Look: 6.5/10
Microphonics (higher ratings means lower cable noise): 8/10
Isolation: 9.5/10
Comfort: 9/10
Audio Quality: 8.5/10

My final Rating: 7/10: based on £350 price tag OR 9.5/10: based on £150 price tag

Purchase Date: December 2012
Purchase Price: £300-350 -> Can now be found for under £150 (review is based on £300-350 price tag)

First of all, I would like to thank Denon for sending me out the AH-C400’s to review. These headphones, are the first “premium” range earphones that Denon has released. After being a big fan of the bass quality and quantity of the previous models, like the C710 and the C751 and especially the price point they came at, I was vastly interested what the first ever balanced armature drivers from Denon would offer. The C400’s have a dual balanced armature design, which is worth noting about as it competes with the likes of Westone, Phonak Audéo, Ultimate Ears and so on.
The price point of these is what’s more interesting, as these earphones don’t come cheap. In fact they sit right in between the competition at £300 to £350, making these earphones come in at a very expensive price point. These can be found at AmazonUK & AmazonUSA.

Sony MDR-EX500 Earphone Review

For the impatient lot, here’s a quick summary of the review for your first, before we jump to the full length review right after the image gallery.

Quick summary

Packaging & Accessories: 7/10
Build Quality: 7/10
Design & Look: 8/10
Microphonics (higher ratings means lower cable noise): 8/10
Isolation: 7/10
Comfort: 9/10
Audio Quality: 8/10
Value: 10/10
My final Rating: 9.5/10

Purchase Date: January 2009
Purchase Price: £40

Pros

  • Good noise isolation
  • Fit isn’t bad, although it’s vastly improved with comply tips + the noise isolation become much better
  • Great differentiation between sounds
  • Bass response is excellent, better than the rest at its price point
  • J shaped wire between the Left and Right bud. Great for portability.
  • L shaped jack, which means improved flexibility, and better cabling life

Cons

  • Warranty is only 1 year in comparison to all other competitors out there.
  • They are loud for others. People can hear them when you have them in your ears
  • Reasonably big phones, you can’t sleep on them unlike the Sennheisers
  • Harsh sound out of the box
  • Quite a lot of fakes rolling around on the internet – Buy it from an Authorised dealer to save yourself the hassle.

Conclusion

Once you get a good fit with the Sony’s they turn out to be excellent, better than any other phones I’ve heard for under £50. More so, after 1 year and careful use, the J splitter fell apart, meaning I had to glue and tape it back together to prevent it from getting damaged further. So be warned, the cable isn’t the best aspect of these earphones.

Sound Quality Ratings
Lows: 8/10
