Asus Xonar D1 Sound Card Review

Pros: Low profile, Great SQ
Cons: Bad software, no colour scheme

Audio Quality: 9/10
Value: 7/10
My overall rating: 8.5/10

Purchase Date: June 2010
Purchase Price: £65

I’ve had this card for quite a while now, and I have to say its a really nice card – a huge step-up to my on-board motherboard’s audio.
At first I do have to admit, it didn’t feel like the D1 was a true upgrade, but as time went by, I noticed more and more difference.

The price tag when I bought it (which hasn’t changed much since) I found was a little steep.
The software provided isn’t that great, its nice and simple, but the pre-set EQ’s are completely terrible, the audio effects aren’t great either.
You really have to play with the software, and do some trial and error with it.

I found it would have been nice if there was a little more attention to detail for the software, seeing as the hardware is capable.

So my conclusions:
If you’re really into your audio products and looking for a soundcard, the D1 will deliver. However if you are not much of an audio nut, you’ll be scratching your head over the price.
